What to do to aid in early detection:

The first and easiest of things every one can do is monthly self-examinations.
Have a profession breast examination every 3 years from the time you are 20 years of age.
If you are a woman age 40  and over have a mammogram every 1-2 years.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer:

  • A lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area
  • A change in the size or shape of the breast
  • Nipple discharge or tenderness, or the nipple pulled back (inversion) into the breast
  • Ridges or pitting of the breast (the skin looks like the skin of an orange
  • A change in the way the skin of the breast, areola, or nipple looks or feels (for example, warm, swollen, red, or scaly).

Remember you know your body better then anyone else.  Checking it regularly is the best way to find a problem.  You can also ask your partner to assist in these checks. If a symptom should appear don't hesitate to get it checked out by a professional.  It is better to get it checked out and have it be a false alarm then to ignore the issue and have it become far worse. The earlier the detection the more likely you are to have a success rate.
